A person.

Initials, not a silhouette

In a list of colleagues, “BH” identifies someone and a grey outline of a head does not. Most people in an internal tool have no photo, so the fallback is the common path.

Guidance

Use it when

  • Identifying a person in a dense list, next to their name.
  • src when there is a photo — it falls back to initials on load failure.

Reach for something else when

  • As the only identifier. Two colleagues can share initials; always pair it with the name.
  • Large sizes for decoration. This is a wayfinding aid, not a portrait.

The image is decorative — alt="" — because the name is already in the row beside it. Announcing it twice is noise.
